PESHAWAR: The city traffic police claimed on Monday to have fined 980 persons for encroaching upon roads and impounded 3,200 motorcycles for wrong parking during the last 30 days.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Chief Traffic Officer Qamar Hayat Khan asked people, especially vendors, to refrain from setting up their stalls on the roads, as it hindered smooth flow of traffic. He said violation of no-parking zones would not be tolerated.

Mr Hayat said traffic police had been directed to fine those found guilty of encroaching roads.
