LAKKI MARWAT: Local body representatives have asked the government to complete the rehabilitation work on the Marwat canal without delay.

They made the demand during a meeting with Bannu division commissioner Parweiz Sabatkhel at his office on Friday.

They discussed with him matters pertaining to ongoing projects in water and power sector, including upraising of Baran dam, construction of Kurrum Tangi dam and rehabilitation of Marwat canal.

The delegation consisted of Lakki tehsil council chairman Shafqatullah Khan, Naurang tehsil chairman Haji Azizullah and Ghaznikhel tehsil chairman Zeeshan Mohammad Khan.

They told the commissioner that rehabilitation of Marwat canal and construction of Kurram Tangi dam would bring a green revolution to the backward district besides raising the living standards of locals.

The local government representatives thanked the divisional commissioner for his personal interest in ensuring timely completion of uplift projects.

The irrigation department officials disclosed that the recent spell of torrential rains coupled with powerful winds had caused damage to the canal in Janikhel and Bakakhel areas.

They said work on rehabilitation of the canal was going on with full swing and would be completed in couple of months.

Mr Sabatkhel directed the authorities concerned to expedite work on canal’s rehabilitation. He assured the tehsil council chairmen of using all available resources to resolve problems faced by people of Lakki.
