MARDAN: Robbers deprived a money changer of Rs32 million in Sangawoo area of Katlang tehsil here on Sunday, the police said.
Katlang police station officials quoted the currency dealer, Sarfaraz Khan, hailing from Buner district, as saying that he collected Rs6 million from Chowk Yadgar and Rs26 million from a market in Hayatabad in Peshawar. He said he along with his driver, Sher Ali Khan, headed for their native Buner district in a car. He claimed a car stopped on the roadside after crossing them in Sangawoo area of Katlang.
The currency dealer alleged four persons got out of the car and signaled them to stop. He told the police the alleged robbers – two of them equipped with pistols and one with a dagger – took them away to a deserted place and fastened their hands and feet with ropes. The dealer went on to say that the robbers then snatched Rs32 million from him and decamped.
The Katlang police lodged an FIR on the complaint of the currency dealer against unknown robbers and began further investigations.
VISIT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali on Sunday visited the Mardan Medical Complex Hospital to enquire after sub-divisional police officer, Katlang, Farooq Zaman Khan, who was injured when unknown miscreants attacked his vehicle here on Saturday night.
Talking to mediapersons on the occasion, Mr Ali said the government would provide the best treatment to the police officials injured while fighting militancy as they had been rendering supreme sacrifices for the country’s protection.
The governor insisted that the law and order situation in KP was improving.
He also claimed the election commission had agreed to his viewpoint that polls to the provincial and national assemblies should be held on the same day.
