MARDAN: Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Katlang tehsil, Farooq Zaman Khan sustained serious bullet injuries when unknown miscreants opened indiscriminate fire on his car near Ghundo police post here on Saturday night.

An FIR registered by the officials of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) quoted constable, Shayan Hasan, the gunman of the injured SDPO, as saying that they were on their way to Baizai police station when unidentified terrorists opened fire on their car near Ghundo police post.

He said that while he narrowly escaped the attack, SDPO Farooq Zaman sustained serious injuries. He said that he also retaliated to the firing, forcing the miscreants to flee.

The injured SDPO was shifted to the Mardan Medical Complex Hospital by Rescue 1122 personnel. The doctors in the hospital stated that his condition was out of danger.

Meanwhile, officials said that the police had launched a search operation in Ghundo and adjacent areas to trace the attackers.
