LAHORE: The Punjab home department has written to the interior ministry to deploy army and Rangers troops for the security of Muharram processions across the province.

The Punjab government has sought deployment of 76 companies of the army and 80 companies of Rangers for deployment for the security of main Muharram processions in all major cities of the province.

The army and Rangers troops along with Punjab police would do a flag march on main processions in all big cities on Muharram 7.

The army and Rangers, to be assigned to look after law and order, will be posted in main procession nearby buildings and be available on call. The troops will be reporting to the deputy commissioners in respective districts.

The home department has also requested the interior ministry to direct jamming of mobile networks in at least 300 meters radius of sensitive main Muharram processions on Muharram 9 and 10.

BOR: The Board of Revenue has granted approval for the allotment of government land for the construction of state-of-the-art buildings of police stations, special branch and CTD currently functioning in rented buildings.

The police department will be required to get the buildings constructed.
