GILGIT: Climber Naila Kiani set another record on Thursday, becoming the first Pakistani woman to summit Broad Peak, the world’s 12th highest mountain at 8,051 metres above sea level.
Separately, Polish climber Anna Tybor became the first woman to ski down the mountain. In other summits, Bolivian climber Hugo Ayaviri ascended Gasherbrum-II while two climbers from Pakistan scaled Gasherbrum-I.
Alpine Club of Pakistan Secretary Karar Haidri said Ms Kiani ascended the peak at 2:03am after starting her summit push on Wednesday from camp 3. She has now summited all five mountains of over 8,000m in Pakistan. In total, she has ascended eight out of the 14 eight-thousanders, including Everest, K2, Lhotse, Annapurna, Gasherbrum-I, Gasherbrum-II, Nanga Parbat and Broad Peak.
