RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha on Saturday directed the Building Department to speed up work on the Government Associate College for Girls in Gujar Khan.
The project has been facing delay and is yet to be completed. The commissioner issued the instruction at a meeting held to review development schemes here on Saturday.
Director Development Nazia Sudhan, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema, Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority Saif Anwar Jappa and officials of other departments participated in the meeting of the Divisional Development Working Party.
The scheme to install 56 LED lights by the district council and the construction of a boundary wall in five graveyards was also discussed.
About the road sector, the meeting was told that funds for the repair and maintenance of 29.80-km-long link road from Gujar Khan to Pir Phalai in Union Council Kontrella and the widening of Sohawa Chakwal Road had been utilised fully and a demand for additional funds had been sent.
Schemes worth millions of rupees approved at meeting of DDWP
Five new schemes were proposed for the Rawalpindi division. A scheme for seven tubewells and laying water supply pipelines in NA-60 was also presented which is expected to cost Rs100 million.
Apart from this, construction and repair of the 3.6-km long link road in Gujar Khan worth Rs69 million was also presented in meeting.
Moreover, Rs99.562 million for the repair and maintenance of 10-km-long road from Haider Chowk to Tanaza Dam were sought besides Rs55 million for the pavement of Dhoke Gah Road in Choha Syedan Shah.
Likewise, another scheme worth Rs60 million by Public Health Department in Talagang for laying sewerage/drainage, causeway and construction of a retaining wall was also proposed.
Mr Chattha directed that the required formalities in these schemes be fulfilled as soon as possible.
The commissioner said the completion of these projects should be ensured within the stipulated period. Also, quality of work should not be neglected in the race for timely completion of the projects.
He said repair and construction of main highways as well as link roads was very important.
Meanwhile, Secretary Industries and Skills Development Ehsan Bhutta visited Government College of Technology, Farooq-i- Azam Road, and Government Technical Training Institute at Kohati Bazaar Rawalpindi.
He met the principals, directors and district managers to review the performance of the institute. He visited the summer skill camp classes where students of computer courses had organised a students’ day.
The students praised their teachers and thanked the Punjab government for conducting the skill-based courses during summer vacations.
They also appreciated the English language learning course and said their confidence and communication skill had improved a lot in the last two months.
The secretary said the programme of skill-based education by the Punjab government was a good initiative. Technical education is very important so that you can become a successful person in the society, he told the students.
