KASUR: A minor girl died while an elderly man suffered serious injuries in two separate incidents of roof collapse in another heavy spell rain in Kasur on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the river Sutlej started flowing in a low level flood once again as India released more water from its dam constructed on the river.

According to Allahabad police, the roof of the house of Nazir Ahmed caved in at Dhutta village during rain. As a result, 12-year-old Rashida was buried alive. Locals and Rescue 1122 took out the body of the victim from the debris.

In a similar incident, the roof of a room of a house collapsed at village Bhagiwal.

Water level rises in Sutlej

A 70-year-old man, Subhan Khan, suffered serious injuries in the incident. The injured was hospitalised.

After the rise in the Sutlej water once again on Tuesday, the district administration cancelled the Muharram holidays of the officials of the Rescue 1122 and other related departments to deal with any emergency situation.

The administration and rescue teams restarted evacuation from about a dozen villages and smaller settlements along the Sutlej that lost their road links in the floodwater.

About a week back, over 14,000 villagers who were evacuated from the flood-hit villages started returning to their homes as the water level started receding.

Water level in the Sutlej had come down to 20,000 cusecs from 114,000 cusecs. However, on the night between Monday and Tuesday, the discharge of water in the Sutlej at Talwar post was 66,000 cusecs, which was raised to over 73,000 cusecs.

Low level flood started from 60,000 cusecs.

SUSPENDED: District Police Officer Tariq Aziz suspended a sub-inspector for uploading hate material on social media against a sect on Tuesday.

The SI appointed at the Khudian Police Station had uploaded material in a WhatsApp group that annoyed the followers of a sect. The followers of the sect approached the DPO who suspended the policeman and ordered an inquiry against him.
