WASHINGTON: Three retired military veterans testified before a House Oversight subcommittee on Wednesday, shedding light on unidentified anomalous phenomena, commonly referred to as UFOs, warning that these sightings pose a national security concern and criticised the government’s lack of transparency regarding the matter.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Ryan Graves, a former Navy pilot and founder of Americans for Safe Aerospace, stressed the importance of addressing unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) as a national security problem if they were foreign drones, or an issue for scientific research if they were something else, CNN reported.

In addition, retired US Navy commander David Fravor and former Air Force intelligence officer David Grusch recounted their personal encounters with UAPs while serving in the military.

Mr Grusch alleged that the government has been concealing its research on these unidentified sightings.

The hearing was convened in response to calls for more transparency on UFO-related matters.
