KASUR: Three staff nurses and a maid were found guilty of kidnapping of a newborn from DHQ Hospital after an inquiry on Wednesday.

A staff nurse, wife of a bureaucrat, with the connivance of other staff allegedly kidnapped a newborn girl from the hospital on Tuesday but was caught on CCTV cameras.

The nurse, according to hospital sources, wanted to give the baby to one of her relatives [without an issue] but she took away the newborn girl without adopting a legal procedure that landed her and co-suspects in trouble.

The baby later recovered by police, was kidnapped in the official car on Tuesday.

According to the hospital administration, an unidentified woman left a newborn in the paeds ward of DHQ hospital

and escaped. Charge nurse Ambreen, wife of a bureaucrat, with the help of two head nurses (BS-17) Rifat Bibi, Gulshan Bibi and maid Munawar Karamat allegedly kidnapped the newborn from DHQ hospital in the official car of the bureaucrat currently posted at Governor House, Lahore.

The charge nurse returned the baby to the DHQ hospital after she was caught on CCTV cameras. The girl was shifted to a child protection centre.

DHQ Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Muhammad Farooq removed the maid from service, suspended the three nurses and initiated a probe under PEEDA Act against them.

The MS recommended the case of the nurses to high-ups as their removal did not fall within his purview.

Meanwhile, on the orders of Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi,

an inquiry was initiated on Wednesday to probe the matter and submit a report within three working days.
