KARACHI: Over a dozen people suffered injuries when the roof of a factory collapsed following a gas explosion in Korangi Industrial Area on Sunday, police and rescuers said.

They said that some of the victims also suffered burn injuries due to the fi re that followed the explosion.

Area SHO Humayun Khan said that due to a leakage gas was accumulated in the one-storey building of a factory located in Korangi’s P&T Colony. A huge explosion that also triggered a fi re took place when someone lit a match in the kitchen due to which the roof of the factory caved in.

He said that police and rescue team rushed the scene and managed to retrieved the injured person from the rubble and shifted them to different hospitals.

The SHO said 10 persons suffered injuries in roof collapse while four others also suffered burns.

He said that the condition of one of the injured person was serious as he has suffered up to 85 per cent burns.

The condition of rest of the injured persons was stated to be out of danger.
