LAHORE: South Punjab School Education Department Secretary Rana Salim Ahmad Khan has said they are providing training to the transgender teachers to empower them for a brighter future.
He was addressing the concluding ceremony of a five-day training workshop for transgender schoolteachers, which was organised by the Department of School Education South Punjab and Unicef.
Mr Khan, underscored the pivotal role of education in the societal integration of transgender individuals.
He highlighted that assuming responsibility for the education and upbringing of transgender individuals is a significant step towards fostering their acceptance as responsible citizens of society.
The secretary said that a comprehensive approach to education entails not only expertise in subject matter but also in pedagogical skills. To this end, the training of transgender school teachers across various disciplines aims to equip them with proficiency in curriculum matters and teaching techniques.
The event was held at Government Girls High School No 1 in Dera Ghazi Khan and drew participation not only from transgender school teachers but also from officials of the Department of School Education South Punjab and Unicef.
Underlining the profound impact of accessible and quality education on society’s growth, the secretary said that progress and development are intrinsically linked to education.
He said the department facilitated access to quality education for students in south Punjab, including transgender people.
The department plans to establish state-of-the-art libraries with modern facilities for students in transgender schools in Multan and Bahawalpur.
