RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader and former federal minister Shehryar Khan Afridi, who was granted bail by the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench on Thursday, was picked up by the Rawalpindi police soon after his release from Adiala jail.
Mr Afridi had been booked by the New Town police in connection with the May 9 violence.
The LHC’s Rawalpindi bench on Thursday ordered the release of PTI leaders Shehryar Khan Afridi, his brother Furrukh Afridi, Nadia Hussain and Shah Jahan declaring their detention illegal.
Before Mr Afridi’s release, however, a large number of police officials led by DSP New Town had arrived outside the Adiala jail to take him into custody.
The PTI leader was arrested on May 16 from his residence in Islamabad under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. Shortly after his release from prison in Rawalpindi on May 30, Mr Afridi was rearrested under the MPO.
