ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has been summoned by the capital police for investigation in five of the 13 cases registered against him, on Saturday (today).

Officers of the capital police told Dawn that Mr Khan was summoned in connection with the pending investigations of cases, including one registered at Karachi Company under section 341, 188, 147, 149 and 109 on May 14 and another at the Tarnol police station under section 440, 506ii, 353, 351, 382, 109, 148, 149, 186, 188 and 123-A on May 10.

In this regard, separate summon orders were served on Mr Khan to visit the SSP investigation office on August 5 and join the investigation.

Summons were also issued to him to appear at the office of the SSP investigation on August 2, 3 and 4, but he did not turn up. He was asked again to appear before the investigators on August 5.

He was told to give his version after joining the investigation and also bring evidence in his favour if he wanted to produce any, the officers said, adding legal action will be taken against him over his failure to appear before the investigators.

The officers said the capital police were investigating 13 cases registered against Mr Khan. Out of the 13 cases, 12 were registered in connection with violence that erupted in the capital in May after his arrest while the other was the Toshakhana case.

On July 9, he was interrogated by separate teams of the Counter-Terrorism Department and the investigation wing in the offices of the DIG operations and the SSP investigation at G-11/4, respectively.

The CTD interrogated him in connection with three cases registered at Khanna and Bhara Kahu police stations. Out of the other 10 cases, Mr Khan told the police at that time that he was not prepared to respond in five cases, including the Toshakhana case, registered at the Kohsar police station.

During the interrogation on July 9, he was given a questionnaire containing 14 queries, they said, adding the investigating officers and other members of the team also asked various questions from Mr Khan.

As Mr Khan was about to leave, he was told that he was required to be questioned in five more cases. At this, he sat down again and asked the officials to probe him.

Police officials told him that he needed to sign his statement as well. In response, Mr Khan replied that he was not prepared to reply to questions in connection with the other cases.
