KARACHI: A policeman and a 70-year-old woman sustained bullet wounds during an encounter at Jamali Bridge on Superhighway on Tuesday evening.

The SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police said a police team was engaged in an encounter with suspects riding a motorcycle on the bridge. One member of the police team, constable Mast Ali, was wounded in the clash, they said. The suspects, however, managed to escape, they added.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that a 70-year-old woman, Noor Bibi Hasan, was also wounded during the exchange of fire between the two sides.

The wounded constable was shifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital and the woman to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

Two suspects shot by citizen

Two suspected robbers were shot and wounded by a citizen in the Korangi area on Tuesday morning.

Awami Colony SHO Jamal Leghari said four armed suspects tried to loot people near Singer Chowrangi. A man, later identified as Ahsan, took out his licensed pistol and opened fire on the suspects. As a result, two suspects, Shehbaz Anwar and Yasir Rafiq, sustained bullet wounds, the SHO said.

A police team rushed to the spot and took both suspects into custody and shifted them to the JPMC for treatment. Their associates, however, managed to flee. The police seized two pistols and snatched cash from the held suspects’ custody.

Three men shot by robbers

Two persons were shot and wounded by suspected robbers in Federal B Area on Tuesday noon.

The Gulberg police said that Asif Mohammed, 50, and Ameeruddin, 48, were shot at and wounded over resisting a robbery bid in Block-A. The wounded men were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

In another incident, a 45-year-old man, Mohammed Akber, was shot at and wounded while resisting a robbery bid in Orangi Town, Sector 11½ near Islam Chowk, according to the Pakistan Bazaar police. The injured man was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
