RAWALPINDI: City Police Office (CPO) Rawalpindi has constituted a special monitoring cell to keep an eye on traffic wardens and traffic regulation in the city.

City Traffic Police has initiated this step to ensure the presence of wardens and smooth flow of traffic. The traffic police issued challans to 46,392 motorcyclists without helmets and confiscated over 7,000 motorcycles in the last month.

The traffic police asserted that issuing challans had never been the goal rather safety of the citizens was the objective. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimoor Khan said special monitoring cell was initiated with a view to making roads accident-free.

He further said zero-tolerance policy was being adopted on helmet enforcement and 14 checkpoints in the city had been made for this purpose. Moreover, he was quite clear that no government or private employee was exempted in this regard.

He urged the parents to discourage underage children to ride motorcycles and use helmets for their safety.

Furthermore, the CTO and senior traffice officer (STO) inspected various roads of Rawalpindi district to evaluate the flow of traffic and issued necessary instructions to the officials on duty and gave them guidelines to improve traffic flow on roads.

On this occasion, STO Rawalpindi Munir Ahmed Hashmi directed all officers to take strict action against wrong parking on a daily basis and encroachments.

He assured the citizens that Rawalpindi Traffic Police were using all available resources for the convenience of the citizens and requested them to be patient while driving and to adhere to the traffic rules.
