KOHAT: Two boys drowned in a pond in a remote village of Khushalgarh area here while taking a bath, residents said on Friday.

They said that Asghar and Naveed hailing from Dhok Nala area had gone to the pond in Parshai village to beat the heat, but drowned. They said that the villagers pulled their bodies out.

ROBBERIES: The residents of posh KDA Town, Gumbat and Shahpur areas have demanded of district police officer Farhan Khan to ensure police patrolling in the areas to curb rising robberies.

Talking to mediapersons, they said that robbers were striking at will in the absence of police patrol, looting mobile phones and cash from citizens at gunpoint.

A former nazim, Shakeel Hiader said in Gumbat, robberies were continuing in the broad day light.

The KDA dwellers complained that the police were not registering FIRs and only wrote the case on a simple paper, which showed their disinterest in going after the robbers.

The residents said two pedestrians had been deprived of Rs30,000 and mobile phones in sector 6 of KDA, while in sector 4, cases of snatching mobiles and cash by motorcyclists had also been reported.

Similarly, they said that in Shahpur, labourers were deprived of cash by armed men a few days ago.

They said that robbers had also been striking in Gumbat tehsil without any let-up.

SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS: The district administration has finalised security arrangements to mark the Independence Day in a befitting manner.

This was disclosed at a meeting chaired by deputy commissioner Dr Azamatullah Wazir held here the other day.

Additional deputy commissioner, general, Shehryar Qamar, additional deputy commissioner, finance and planning, Reena Soharwardi, assistant commissioner, Kohat, Usman Ashraf, assistant commissioner, Darra Adamkhel, Amir Nawaz, assistant commissioner, Lachi, Maleeha Sehar, additional assistant commissioners, district Khateeb Mufti Shafiullah, the social welfare officer, officials of the police, education and sports departments, teshil municipal administrations and local body members were in attendance

It was decided that literary events and competitions of football, cricket and other games would be organised among students on the occasion.

DIES: Senior lawyer and Awami National Party leader Saeed Shah Bokhari Advocate died when his car rammed into a roadside tree in Hangu district on Friday. He was 55.

The ANP leaders, workers and civil society activists termed his death as an irreparable loss.

Mr Bokhari had pleaded the cases of late Khan Abdul Wali Khan and had obtained a decree in favour of his client against a book publishing company.

He also dealt with constitutional, civil cases and specialised in criminal, family, narcotics and service cases.
