MARDAN: A man allegedly tortured to death his minor daughter over a petty issue in Chamrang village of Garikapoora area here on Saturday, the police said.

They said that the slain girl was identified as Thania Gul, 12.

The preliminary investigation conducted by the officials of the Garikapoora police station revealed that the alleged killer, identified as Zahoor Mohammad, first reprimanded her daughter for taking food items brought home by his father for cooking.

The police officials said that as the accused was also not on good terms with his father, he was angry at his daughter for accepting the food items from her grandfather.

The officials said that the man started beating his daughter up, which resulted in her instant death.

The police said that the accused had contracted the second marriage after divorcinghis first wife. After divorce, the first wife of the accused had also contracted the second marriage, they added.

The officials said that the second wife of the accused was currently staying with her parents after developing differences with her husband.

They said that the alleged killer had four children, including the slain daughter, from his first wife.

The Garikapoora police officials said that they had lodged an FIR against the accused on the complaint of a sister of the slain girl. They said that they were making efforts to arrest the alleged killer, who had managed to escape from the scene.
