KARACHI: As Independence Day approaches, the streets of the city are adorned with colours of patriotism and young people are full of fervour making arrangements for celebrations.

Amid the vibrant atmosphere, a group of children with their creative and spirited stalls of flags and badges was making their mark on the festive landscape.

Dawn spoke to these enthusiastic youngsters who were setting up the stalls along a road showcasing their heartfelt dedication to the nation and its history.

When asked about their inspiration for setting up the stalls for Independence Day, the children echoed their love for Pakistan and their desire to display their pride for the country.

These kids viewed their stalls as a medium for celebrating alongside their fellow citizens with their each unique stall reflecting their personal connection to Pakistan’s journey to independence.

At these stalls, visitors could find a medley of items that hold special significance. From national flags and badges to miniature models of iconic national landmarks, each item was carefully selected to symbolise the spirit of Pakistan.

On the occasion of Independence Day, stalls of traditional snacks are also set up along streets reminding people about nation’s culinary heritage.

Speaking to Dawn the children said that on the occasion of Independence Day they usually spent time researching Pakistan’s history gathering insights into the struggle for freedom, and selecting items that best capture the essence of the occasion.

The result is a collection that radiates the rich tapestry of Pakistan’s heritage.

For them Independence Day signifies more than just a holiday.

“It is a day of remembrance and gratitude toward the heroes who fought tirelessly for Pakistan’s sovereignty,” a child at the stall told Dawn.

Proudly arranging different items at their stalls, they said that they aimed at commemorating the sacrifices that paved the way for their nation’s freedom.

Highlighting their favourite items among an array of offerings, the children shared their personal connections to their stalls. One spoke of a miniature model of Minar-i-Pakistan as a symbol of the nation’s determination while another took pride in colourful badges that represented unity.

What they resonated most was the joy of being part of Independence Day celebrations.

Seeing people’s faces lit up as they browsed through their stalls and engaged in conversations about Pakistan’s history bought an undeniable sense of accomplishment to the children.

The positive response from passers-by had further emboldened their commitment to sharing their love for their homeland, they said.

Teamwork, creativity, and an understanding of cultural heritage were among the skills they gained through their endeavour, the children added.

In their message for their fellow citizens, the children wished everyone a joyous Independence Day and asked all Pakistanis to unite in pride for their country.
