TAXILA: Another woman fell victim to domestic violence in Kamra Sharqi village of Hassanabdal on Tuesday, while the body of an eight-year-old girl was recovered from a nullah in Attock where she drowned on Independence Day.
Police said Babar, 45, said to be a drug addict, often subjected his 35-year-old wife Shabana Bibi to torture.
On Tuesday, the man beat her up after which she boarded a rickshaw taking along her 13-year-old daughter for her parents’ house.
Out of rage, however, the suspect intercepted the rickshaw and showered bullets on both. As a result, his wife died on the spot while the daughter received three bullet injuries and was critically injured. The man fled from the scene.
The dead and injured were shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital where the condition of the girl was stated to be critical.
On August 10, a woman was shot dead by her in-laws in the Kawwan village in the limits of the same police station.
Meanwhile, pall of gloom descended on Mohallah Meharpura in Awan Sharif area of Attock on Tuesday after the body of an eight-year-old girl dressed in green shirt with Pakistani flags and white trouser was retrieved from a drain after 12 hours’ efforts by Rescue 1122, municipal committee workers and volunteers.
According to family sources, Ayesha Khan along with her family members had come to her uncle’s house to celebrate Independence Day. While going to purchase the national flag, she drowned in a broken drain passing in the area.
The body of the girl was spotted a few kilometres away from the spot of drowning near the local police lines.
Separately, a man was stabbed to death over an old enmity in Lalazar area in the limits of Attock police.
The police said Syed Hassan Shah, 39, was attacked by a masked man with a dagger. He received multiple injuries and died on the spot.
Police station struck by lightning
Five policemen were injured when the Attock Khurd police station turned into rubble after being struck by lightning in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to the police spokesperson, lightning hit a portion of the police station where the mall khana was located, damaging the entire building.
He said five police officials - ASI Imtiaz, wireless operator Bilawal Siddiqui and constables Sajjad, Faizan and Touqeer - were injured. One of them was shifted to Rawalpindi due to his critical injuries. Soon after the incident, Rescue 1122 teams as well as fire tenders rushed to the spot.
The residential compound, reporting room, front desk and mall khana (godown where confiscated arms and ammunition as well as narcotics are kept) were also damaged. A number of impounded vehicles were also damaged.
Later a bomb disposal squad as well as Punjab Forensic Science Agency also arrived and started collecting evidence.
