HARIPUR: Office-bearers of divisional and district sports associations here on Thursday criticised deputy secretary of the sports and youth affairs department Nazma Shaheen over the suspension of regional sports officer Ahmad Zaman and accused her of misusing her powers.

The services of the regional sports officer were suspended under Rule 6 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Servants (Efficiency & Discipline).

Haripur Cricket Association president Khalid Khaldi, Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association Hazara general secretary Safeer Ahmad Chaudhry Haq Nawaz of the Hockey Association Haripur, Dr Taimur Khan of the Basketball Association Haripur and Asif Khan of the Karate and Gymnastic Association Haripur told a joint presser here that the sports deputy secretary’s brother, Mohammad Shoaib, served as a computer operator in the office of the Rescue 1122 Haripur but she, using her influence, got him posted as the district sports officer.

They, however, said DSO Auqib Khan got a stay order against that posting from the divisional bench of the Peshawar High court.

The leaders of sports bodies claimed that the deputy secretary got her brother transferred to Abbottabad as the DSO but Abbottabad DSO Tauseef Abbasi blocked that posting by securing a stay order from the high court.

They also insisted that Abbottabad regional sports officer Ahmad Zaman refused to listen to the deputy secretary, he was suspended.

The leaders claimed that the action against Mr Zaman violated rules.

They demanded of the governor and acting chief minister to order action on the matter.
