KARACHI: A local leader of Pakistan Peoples Party was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in Orangi Town late on Tuesday night, police and party officials said.

Iqbal Market police said that Amjad Husain, 35, was standing at the local party office near his home when three assailants riding a motorbike fired indiscriminately and fled. He sustained 10 bullet wounds including three in the abdomen and two in the head. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The officer said the incident appeared to be a targeted killing but exact motive would be ascertained after a proper investigation.

Secretary General of PPP’s Sindh chapter Waqar Mehdi told Dawn that the killing was motivated by political considerations. He said the deceased had been associated with the party for the last 20-25 years and was president of the UC in Orangi Town and former candidate for the seat of general councilor.
