MARDAN: A woman and her son were electrocuted inside their house in Umarabad area of Takhtbai tehsil, Rescue 1122 officials said here on Saturday.

They said the victims were identified as wife of Abdul Wahad and her 10-year-old son, Naveed.

They said the incident took place when they touched uncovered wires of an electric fan.

The rescuers shifted the woman and the boy to a hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have recovered a kidnapped newborn and arrested two accused, including a woman, officials said on Saturday.

Police officials and hospital sources said the newborn was kidnapped by unknown persons the other day from the gynaecology ward of Mardan Medical Complex Hospital in broad daylight.

District police officer Najeeb-ur-Rehman Bhagovi had constituted a special team led by ASP Sheikh Maltoon Town circle Resham Jehangir to recover the infant immediately.

The police arrested a man and a woman hailing from Chargali area and recovered the newborn from them.

The preliminary investigations revealed the woman took away the infant as he had no children.
