BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman has ordered the commissioner to ensure continuity of the Speedo Bus service between Bahawalpur and Lodhran as per the subsidy agreement.

The governor issued the directives, taking notice of the letter written by the private transport company’s management to relevant government departments, warning of closure of the Speedo bus service for non-payment of Rs250 million arrears.

As per an official hand-out, the governor directed Divisional Commissioner Dr Ehtesham Anwar Mahar to ensure that operation of the Speedo bus service continues between the two cities without any disruption in accordance with the government’s subsidy agreement with the private company, for the convenience of people, especially the students from the area.

This is the second time that the Punjab governor has intervened in the matter to ensure provision of low-fare and comfortable bus service to local population. More than 15,000 people, a majority of them university and college students, use the bus service daily to commute between the two cities.
