CHITRAL: Gunmen killed two people in Drosh area of Lower Chitral district on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred in Kaldam Gol forest due to a dispute between the residents and Gujjar community over the ownership of forestland, according to the police.

Lower Chitral superintendent of police (investigation) Abdul Sattar Khan told Dawn that Ashraf Nabi and Ihsanuddin were shot down allegedly by Noor Alam of the Gujjar community.

He said the accused fled the area along with his family.

The SP said the accused had been booked under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Hundreds of people later blocked the Peshawar Road at Drosh Kabab Chowk by placing bodies.

The protest lasted three hours with participants demanding the immediate arrest of the killers. They named the chief of Gujar community Haji Anzar Gul as the main culprit.

The protesters dispersed peacefully after the assistant commissioner showed up and promised the arrest of the accused in two days.
