QUETTA: Former Balochistan chief minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani has said a majority of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leaders will quit the party and join national level political parties for contesting the upcoming general elections and only a few senators and other people will stay in BAP, adding he himself will join a national level political party.

Talking to journalists on Thurday, Mr Alyani said the purpose of forming BAP was not fulfilled and everybody in the party used it as a ladder to achieve personal gains and did nothing to make it as a strong and functional political party.

“The party was established with sincerity and pledges of its leaders to jointly work for the development of Balochistan on a priority basis and resolve the problems of the people at provincial level, but this objective could not be achieved,” Mr Alyani said, who was the first president of BAP.

He said that at present no party leader was making serious efforts to make BAP a functional and strong party and the party has no provincial and central offices even in Quetta despite having a strength of five MNAs and six senators.

“Over the last one year despite having BAP’s own government no role was witnessed at the organisational level and development of the province,” he claimed, adding that the provincial government failed to launch projects for rehabilitation of the people badly hit by the massive floods last year.

Mr Alyani claimed that during his government, various development projects had been launched for the betterment of the masses of the province.

“In a coalition government, you have to compromise on some issues but could not promise on certain things which undermine your respect, honour and interests of the province,” Mr Alyani said.
