KOHAT: A jirga on Sunday expressed grave concern over increasing incidents of mobile and motorcycle snatching.

Addressing the jirga, Gumbat tehsil council chairman Sajid Iqbal regretted that they had complained to the police many times to start patrolling in the area to provide security to the people from mobile and motorcycle snatchers, who were mostly ice drug addicts, but to no avail.

He demanded a cleanup operation against the sellers and addicts of ice drug.

When contacted, district police officer Farhan Khan, told Dawn that he had increased patrolling in Gumbat to check thefts. He said CCTV cameras had been installed on the Kohat-Orakzai Road to keep an eye on smugglers of hashish and other drugs.

“I have transferred the Gumbat DSP after people complained he had refused to attend a local jirga to devise a strategy for going after ice drug sellers and other criminals.

Meanwhile, SHO Kohat city police station Rauf Khan told Dawn on Sunday that police were making efforts to arrest the three robbers, who had snatched a motorcycle, two mobile phones and Rs52,000 cash at gunpoint from some people in the Doctor Banda area recently.
