RAWALPINDI: A newly married woman was allegedly murdered by her brother-in-law while another woman suffered torture at the hands of robbers in separate incidents.
In the first incident, a woman was allegedly gunned down by her husband’s brother in Naseerabad area over a domestic issue on Sunday night, police said on Monday.
Zahid Khan, the victim’s father and a resident of Upper Dir, lodged an FIR with the police saying that he had married his daughter Zohra to Kashif Khan and she had returned to her parents’ house one month ago after differences developed between the couple.
He further said his son-in-law’s brother Khan Bahadur entered his house carrying a pistol and fired gunshots at Zohra who got critically injured and subsequently died. He further added that he and his son tried to intercept Bahadur but he also threatened to kill them, before fleeing the scene. He claimed that when they came out of their house, they found his son-in-law Kashif and another unidentified person running away with Bahadur.
Separately, a woman was beaten and tortured by two unidentified robbers when she resisted in the limits of Waris Khan police station on Monday. The robbers managed to run away from the scene after snatching gold rings and a cell phone.
Zafar Mehmood, an estate agent, lodged an FIR with the police, saying that his wife was on her way to Amarpura to visit her parents. As she was passing through Dhoke Hukamdad, she was intercepted by two motorcycle riders who were wearing helmets.
A CCTV footage shows the veiled woman being kicked and beaten by the robbers when she refused to give the gold rings she was wearing. He said that his wife was robbed of three gold rings worth Rs100,000 and a cell phone. Besides this, he said, the robbers had also taken away a bank ATM card and his wife’s CNIC.
Police have registered a case against the unknown culprits.
