KARACHI: A young man committed suicide after killing his estranged wife in Malir on Thursday, police said.

The Al-Falah police said Bilal Hameed, 30, shot dead his 22-year-old wife, Javeria, and then ended his life by shooting himself in his in-laws’ house in Golden Town near Wireless Gate.

Korangi-SSP Tariq Nawaz said that the couple had tied the knot around one and half year ago. However, differences had recently emerged between them over some domestic issues and the woman had left the home and started living with her parents. Later, she had also filed a case for dissolution of marriage.

On Thursday, Bilal visited his in-laws’ for some reconciliation, which did not materialise. After a heated argument, he took out a pistol and shot his wife before committing suicide with the same pistol, the SSP said.

The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
