NEW DELHI: The Government of India have banned the entry into India of “Dawn”... according to a notification published in the Gazette of India. ... It is stated in official circles that “Dawn” had consistently violated both the letter and spirit of the Inter-Dominion Agreement... . Under the terms of that agreement it was enjoined on the Press in the two Dominions not to indulge in propaganda against the other Dominion... .
“Dawn’s” Delhi correspondent adds: “Dawn had already been banned by the various Provincial Governments except those of Madras and Delhi. ... [I]t may be mentioned that ... the Prime Minister, Pandit Nehru, himself had publicly voiced annoyance at criticism against him by the Pakistan Press. Pandit Nehru had ”Dawn” especially in mind because of its fearless exposition of certain matters... .”
[Meanwhile, according to news agencies,] Twenty-four-year-old English mother, Mrs Richarda Morrow-Tait ... who is attempting a round-the-world flight in a two-seater light Proctor aircraft, landed at the Karachi airport on Friday [Sept 3]. ... Mrs Morrow-Tait plans to cross unaided the Pacific from Japan to the Aleutian islands.
