TOBA TEK SINGH: The Faisalabad Anti-Terrorism Court on Tuesday extended the physical remand of 32 suspects allegedly involved in the Jaranwala riots case (FIR 1262) for five days.

The extension was granted on Tuesday following a request from the Jaranwala city police to further investigate the matter. The suspects were presented before the court after the expiry of their previous five-day remand.

Meanwhile, Faisalabad SSP Operations Dr. Muhammad Rizwan and Madina Town SP Hafiz Kamran Asghar convened a meeting on Tuesday with FCCI President Dr. Khurram Tariq and other office-bearers.

During the meeting, it was decided that all factory owners would establish minority cells to promptly address any issues that may arise between Muslim and Christian community workers in order to prevent situations similar to the one that occurred in Jaranwala. Such situations often result from the spread of baseless rumours by miscreants.

The meeting also called for the promotion of interfaith harmony among workers.

At the Police Line Complex, Faisalabad CPO Usman Akram Gondal held a meeting with a delegation of the Christian community, which included Fr. Khalid Mukhtar, Pastor Emeric Joseph, Pastor Shakeel, Pastor Saleem Arif, Pastor Rizwan Mal, Pastor Shiraz Bhatti, Pastor Mukhtar Masih, and Pastor Shafqat Bhatti.

A press release issued by the police spokesperson stated that the Christian leaders appreciated police’s efforts in restoring peace in Jaranwala and assured their full cooperation. They pledged to work closely with the police to maintain law and order.

CPO Gondal thanked all the pastors for their commitment to upholding the law and order and provided information about the operations of the Misthaq Centre and complaint centre established in Jaranwala. He assured that all necessary efforts would be made to maintain peace in the area.

DEMO: Scores of citizens staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday outside the Fesco complex in Samundri to denounce inflated electricity bills.

They carried their bills and chanted slogans against the government, demanding relief in power tariffs.

BURNS: A gypsy woman attempted to self-immolate by spraying petrol on her clothes and setting them on fire on Tuesday in her makeshift hut near Johnson Town in Mamukanjan, Faisalabad.

Rescue 1122 officials said Sajida Bibi, 40, took the step as a result of a domestic dispute.

She was critically burnt and was rushed to the local rural health centre, where doctors referred her to the burn unit of the Allied Hospital.

ACCIDENT: Two young men died when their motorcycle collided with a car on Bhakkar Road near Chaillay Wala Adda, situated in the Athara Hazari tehsil of Jhang on Tuesday.

Both residents of the same locality, Abdul Qadeer, 18, and Muhammad Muaz, 19, were injured. Qadeer died instantly, while Muaz succumbed to his wounds at the Athara Hazari THQ hospital.

SUICIDE: A young man took his own life in Gojra, Chak 280-JB Duggal Kotli, on Tuesday.

According to the Nawan Lahore police, Nasir Ali Jat, 25, had a quarrel with his parents over a financial matter. He locked himself in a room at his house and shot himself in the head, resulting in serious injuries. He was rushed to the Gojra THQ Hospital, from where doctors referred him to the Faisalabad’s Allied Hospital where he died.
