ISLAMABAD: Two security guards of a retired, high-ranking Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officer were shot and injured during a robbery in Islamabad on Tuesday, police officials said.

It was not immediately clear whether the PAF officer, retired air chief marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, was also injured.

Police sources said the incident happened in Islamabad’s F-11/1 area when Mr Butt was on a stroll with his two uniformed guards. Two armed persons appeared and approached Mr Butt, held him and tried to snatch cash and valuables from him, including his mobile phone.

However, his guards, Kamran and Baber, rushed towards Mr Butt, police said, adding that seeing the guards in uniform, the robbers shot and injured both the guards. The robbers then managed to flee the scene.

On being alerted, police officials reached the spot and shifted the injured guards to the hospital. However, sources said three people were shifted from the location, but the third person’s identity remained unclear.
