QUETTA: Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto today [Sept 5] reiterated his faith in democracy, and debunked the Opposition parties’ allegations that the people of Baluchistan were being denied their democratic rights. Addressing big gatherings at Chaman, Nushki and Mastung (Baloch and Brahai areas) … Mr. Bhutto said that it was mainly due to the struggle waged by the People’s Party that democracy was restored in the country.

Both at Nushki and Mastung — always considered to be NAP strongholds — he said he would leave to the judgement of the people whether the People’s Party had consistently followed a policy of bringing democracy to Baluchistan, or tried to withhold the rights that were available to other federating units of Pakistan. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Paris,] a shot rang out near the besieged Saudi Arabian Embassy here tonight [Sept 5]. Shortly afterwards, a man’s body was thrown out of a window. Three Arab gunmen had burst into the Embassy earlier this morning and taken several hostages and demanded a plane to fly them to an Arab capital. Gunfire rang out as the assailants took over.
