ISLAMABAD: The Asian Taekwondo Federation (ATC) has allotted the fifth edition of the COMBAXX Asian Open Taekwondo Championship to Pakistan.

The championship will be held in Islamabad during the month of November this year.

The decision to allot the event was made by the executive office and the general assembly of the Asian Taekwondo Federation held in Beirut, said a press release issued here by the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) on Thursday.

According to the press release, delegates from 30 Asian countries participated in the general assembly chaired by ATC president Kyu Seok Lee.

PTF president retired Colonel Waseem Janjua and secretary general Murtaza Bangash represented Pakistan at the assembly.

On this occasion, Lee Kyu Seok announced that Pakistan would host the COMBAXX Asian Open Taekwondo Championship. While assuring full support to the PTF for holding the championship, Kyu Seok Lee said that the previous Asian Open Taekwondo Championship was successfully organised by Pakistan last year under the auspices of the PTF.

“I am looking forward to seeing the talent of Pakistan’s taekwondo athletes [at the fifth edition],” he said.

Meanwhile, retired Col Waseem termed the hosting of the Asian Championship an honour for Pakistan.

While thanking the ATC president and other officials, the PTF president hoped that this year’s Asian championship in Islamabad would feature top taekwondo players from around the world.
