KHYBER: The Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company has initiated a crackdown against illegal use of electricity in Malagori area of Jamrud and disconnected power supply to a number of marble units registering of FIRs against at least ten power thieves.

Tesco officials said that the ‘operation’ was launched after a high-level meeting at the Peshawar commissioner’s office which was also attended by officials of the Khyber district administration, police and Tesco.

They said their field staff disconnected illegal connections from a number of houses who were provided connections from nearby marble units.

They said that while they also made some recoveries of the outstanding electricity bills from the marble factories, bills of at least 42,596 detection units were also issued against the defaulting marble units and domestic consumers.

The operation was conducted in Sher Braj and Marble Chowk localities of Malagori area with the local Tesco officials insisting that it will continue till all illegal connections were removed.

It was also learnt that Tesco officials registered FIRs against owner of Daud Marble, Asmatullah Marble, Nauroz Khan, Muzzafar and Noor Habib with a request to the local police for their immediate arrest.
