KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation is learnt to have prepared a plan for a massive crackdown on illegal hydrants and water thieves with the assistance of Rangers.

Confiding this to Dawn, well-placed sources said that a meeting of KWSC top management with Rangers officials was held on Friday and it was decided that a massive operation against water theft in the city would be launched indiscriminately.

They said that the action against the KWSC officials involved in the business of illegal hydrants would also be taken and a list of such officials was being prepared.

The sources said that the Rangers had been given a detailed report on water theft and illegal hydrants and connections in different parts of the city.

They said that over 100 illegal hydrants had been identified so far in districts Keamari, West, East and Central, while work was in progress to identify illegal hydrants and connections in other districts as well.

The sources said that the Rangers had prepared an action plan to root out the menace of illegal hydrants in the city, which has deprived citizens of their rightful share of the basic necessity.
