ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Club has challenged the Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) direction to the club to make details of its land public.

The secretary of the Islamabad Club in the petition contended that the information commission on a private application issued the direction to disclose the detail of “total land area of the Islamabad Club, yearly lease values that the Islamabad Club has to pay under the lease or contract between the government and the Islamabad Club, where was the current lease signed and for how many years the lease has been granted”.

Besides, the applicant also sought “readable copy” of the lease document.

According to the petition, the Islamabad Club does not receive any financial grant from the public exchequer, hence, the applicant could not seek such information.

The petition pointed out that the Islamabad High Court is already examining the scope of the PIC of issuing direction in such a matter, therefore, the PIC could not issue further orders till the decision of the IHC.

The Islamabad Club requested the IHC to set aside the order of the PIC.
