LOWER DIR: The district sports department arranged an inter-club cricket tournament for the members of minorities here on Monday.

The district sports officer, Abrar Ahmed, former district councillor Shahzad Kokhar and other people from minority community attended the event. The additional deputy commissioner, Abdul Wali Khan, announced Rs10,000 cash for the runner-up team and Rs15,000 for the winner team.

The additional deputy commissioner and district sports officer distributed sports kits and shields among the players.

Shahzad Kokhar thanked sports department for arranging the event and said that it first of its kind tournament in the district. He said that tsuch activities not only removed the sense of deprivation among members of minorities but their children also got a chance to play sports.

The additional deputy commissioner said that sports facilities would be provided to members of minorities.

WAREHOUSES SEALED: The food department and district administration on Monday launched a crackdown on hoarders.

The additional assistant commissioner, Bilal, and along with district food controller Kashif Ehsan raided different stores and took action against hoarders. Two sugar warehouses were sealed. The officials recovered 1,440 bags from one warehouse and 1,510 bags from the other. Cases against the hoarders were lodged under Foodstuffs Control Act, 1958, and Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 1977.
