KOHAT: The district food controller on Monday raided a warehouse in the Afghan refugee camp No 1 here, seized 120 bags of sugar weighing 50kg each and got arrested the owner, also an Afghan.

The food controller had received information that a huge quantity of sugar had been hoarded in a godown in the area. He along with a police team raided the warehouse.

The warehouse owner, Noor Hussain, was taken into custody, and later a case was registered against him.

Meanwhile, the operators of tube-wells and sanitation staff of the Lachi tehsil municipal administration and Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC) on Monday denounced the non-payment of August salary. They threatened to suspend water supply and cleanliness if the salary was not paid by Tuesday (today).

In-charge of tube-wells, Azmat Khan said delay in payment of salary had made it difficult for them to make both ends meet.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Sohail, who leads 550 sanitation workers of WSSC, and Bashir Bacha, the Lachi TMA workers’ leader, lamented the inordinate delay in payment of workers’ salary.

They said due to delayed payments and meager salary, they had to take loans from relatives and other people to buy food items for their families.

They said the Lachi TMA and WSSC were facing financial crunch, but the government had failed to provide funds to them to pay salaries, pensions and meet other expenditures.

KILLED: A truck driver was killed and his cleaner, a child, was seriously injured when the vehicle fell into a ravine while negotiating a sharp turn on a hilly track here on Monday.

A Rescue 1122 medical team reached the spot soon after getting the news, pulled out the body and the injured and shifted them to the KDA Teaching Hospital.
