HYDERABAD: Law-yers on Thursday boycotted court proceedings on a call given by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and backed by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SBCA).
Separate resolution passed by the PBC and SCBA had called for upholding the Constitution and law with regard to the general elections in the country.
A meeting of the Democratic Lawyers Forum held on Thursday demanded the caretaker government to ensure holding of the polls within 90 days in line with the Article 48 (5A) because it was binding upon the interim regime. The lawyers said that caretakers were meant for 90 days in order to ensure safe transition of powers after elections within 90 days from the dissolution of the National Assembly. Abdul Sattar Sarki, Abdul Hakeem Chandio and others spoke at the meeting.
According to the SHCBA Hyderabad president, Yusuf Leghari, the protest call was given by the PBC and backed by the SBCA following the recent All Pakistan Lawyers Convention.
Hyderabad District Bar Association (HDBA) president K.B. Leghari said that elections should be held within 90 days as per the relevant provisions of the Constitution.
