QUETTA: Unknown militants blew up a gas well in the Pirkoh gas field area of Dera Bugti on Thursday, suspending supply to various localities of the district.

Officials said unknown militants planted explosives at the well No 41, which went off, causing fire in the well and suspending supply to a vast area. Security forces rushed to the site after the explosion and brought the fire under control.

“The gas well was badly damaged due to the blast,” officials of Oil and Gas Development Company said, adding that rearing work started in the well will be completed soon and supply would be restored accordingly.

Two days ago, unknown people had blown up two 12-inch diameter pipelines in the Zain Loti gas field area which also disrupted gas supply to many areas.

“A big portion of both the gas pipelines were blown up in the blasts,” officials said, adding that engineers and other staff immediately started repairing the damaged pipelines and restored gas supply to the affected areas.
