ISLAMABAD: A medical camp was held at Maroof International Hospital on Monday to promote wellness and raise healthcare awareness.

The camp was held at Pakistan Revenue Automation Pvt Ltd. (PRAL) in I-9 sector in the wake of an increase in conjunctivitis in parts of the country.

Senior ophthalmologists and other health professionals participated in the all-day event that included informative sessions, interactive workshops, and opportunities for the attendees to have free consultations with medical experts.

Dr Jahanzeb Durrani, a senior ophthalmologist, emphasised the importance of maintaining good eye health and regular eye check-ups. More than 100 people had consultations; out of which, 40pc were diagnosed with near-sightedness (myopia), a common condition in which nearer objects appear clear, but objects at the distance look blurry.

“30pc people had allergic conjunctivitis; this occurs when the conjunctiva becomes swollen or inflamed due to a reaction to pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mould, or other allergy-causing substances. 20pc people had hypermetropia or hyperopia, also known as long-sightedness, another common vision disorder. Whilst 10pc patients had Keratoconus, a condition that causes the cornea (the clear surface on the front of the eye) to gradually thin and bulge into a cone shape,” Dr Durrrani said.

During an awareness session on office ergonomics, physiotherapist Dr Mahnoor Shaukat said people think of the office work environment as the safest place for work.

“But, it can pose many risks to our health. Being aware of the right office ergonomics can protect us from injury and accidents and improve our productivity as well,” she said.
