HARIPUR, Feb 6: The Haripur tent village set up by the district government in collaboration with different international relief agencies was inaugurated by District Nazim Yousaf Ayub Khan on Monday.
The nazim said the Afghan commisioinerate would have administrative control of the village in accordance with the provincial government’s policy while provision of facilities would be ensured by the district government and international relief agencies.
Designed to accommodate over 10,000 people, the tent village has been established at Padhana village near Tarbela Lake. The district government has taken the responsibility of providing 1,100 kanals, security, regular visits of doctors, temporary teaching staff and electricity.
The Turkish Red Cross Society has provided winterized tents, blankets, hygiene kits, polyclinic tents, medicines, a food package for six months, food distribution and internal roads.
The United Nations Children’s Fund has shouldered the responsibility of solid waste management, child protection, hygiene motivation and textbooks, while the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project will provide sanitation facilities.
The nazim asked the affected families living in different localities to move to the tent village.
