KHYBER: Police in Bara tehsil here seized a huge quantity of explosives and also arrested a would-be suicide bomber here on Wednesday.

Khyber district police officer Salim Abbas, in a statement issued from the Shah Kas Police Lines said that the police intercepted a rickshaw loaded with hay at the Nala checkpost in Malakdinkhel area during routine checking.

He said upon search of the rickshaw, 350 kilogrammes of explosives were recovered from under the hay. He termed it the biggest seizure of explosives from any vehicle in the region so far. “The police have successfully saved the region from a huge disaster,” the statement quoted him as saying.

The DPO said that the police also arrested a would-be suicide bomber and the driver of the rickshaw – who were later handed over to the Frontier Corps personnel, who then shifted the two suspects to an undisclosed location for further investigations.

The bomb disposal squad later detonated the seized explosives at a deserted place.
