LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday granted fresh physical remand of PTI Senator Ijaz Chaudhry and former provincial minister Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed to police in two cases of May 9 riots.

Naseerabad police filed two separate applications before the court asking for fresh physical remand of the PTI leaders under new offences added in as many cases of torching a container at Kalma Chowk and the party offices of PML-N in Model Town.

The investigating officers told the court that several new offences including mutiny and waging war against the state had been inserted in the FIRs. Therefore, they said, fresh custody of the suspects was required for investigation under the new charges.

Judge Abher Gul Khan allowed the applications and granted the physical remand of the both suspects for three days.

The judge also directed the police to interrogate Senator Ijaz in jail owing to his health condition.

The police registered various FIRs against the leaders and workers of the PTI on charges of vandalising and burning the public and private property during the violent protests of May 9 following the arrest of Imran Khan in a corruption case by the NAB.
