BAHAWALPUR: The Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Naveed Akhtar has constituted a committee to check drug use on the varsity campuses and to warn the students, teachers and employees of its adverse effects.
The committee headed by Prof Dr.Faizuddind Ahmed comprised academics, also including
IUB Registrar Prof Dr Moazzim Jamil and Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr Muhammad Usman Cheema.
It has been mandated to organise seminars, workshops and special awareness sessions for both students and their parents on all the campuses.
According to an IUB press release, presently, a policy based on strict rules to check drug use on the campuses is being followed, special drug tests are conducted and patrolling by the varsity’s security department and other wings, with the coordination of law-enforcing agencies (LEAs), is being ensured on all the campuses.
FEARED DROWNED: Another man is feared drowned in the river Sutlej on Sunday near

Two young boys had drowned in the river Sutlej near the city last night.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, an unidentified man allegedly drowned while attempting to cross the floodwater flowing in the river.
His body was yet to be retrieved from the river.
Meanwhile, the divers of the emergency service said they have retrieved from the river the body of Hasnain (16), the second boy who had drowned on Saturday night after sixteen-hour-long search.
Husnain, a resident of Chamb Kuliar village, located near Bahawalpur toll plaza, had drowned in the river, along with his friend Kashif (14) of Kahrorepucca, while fishing there.
Kashif’s body was retrieved on Saturday night from the river, while the search operation was abandoned due to poor visibility.
On Sunday morning, the rescuers resumed the search operation and managed to retrieve Hasnain’s body, which was later handed over to his family.
Meanwhile, the Lodhran Rescue 1122 media coordinator Mr Safdar said five persons, including two women, suffered serious injuries in an armed clash over a domestic issue.
The injured persons, including Sughran Bibi and Mahjoob Bibi were shifted to the Lodhran DHQ Hospital, while police reached the scene to take legal action against the suspects involved in the clash.
