ISLAMABAD: A policeman was booked on charges of stealing a precious watch and a diamond ring from a suspect under custody, police said on Monday.

The case was registered at Banigala police station against the constable in response to a complaint lodged by the suspect, a resident of F-6, they added.

Earlier, the suspect was arrested by the Banigala police on Aug 28 from Park View Down Town after a recovery of two bottles of liqour and a 9MM pistol, they said.

After the arrest, he was shifted to the Banigala police station for further legal action, and as per the legal procedure, the police confiscated all the belongings of the suspect at that time, including a watch, a white gold two-carat diamond ring.

Later, the suspect was shifted to jail on judicial remand, and on his demand, the police returned his belongings, except the watch and the ring, when he reached the police station to collect his belongings after obtaining post-arrest bail.

In another incident, four armed persons raided the goldsmith shop of Rashid Mehboob, located in the area of Alipur, Shahzad Town. They held up the jeweller and his staff at gunpoint, they said, and also overpowered the security guard and snatched a 12-bore rifle from him.

They looted gold ornaments weighing 77 tolas and Rs362,000 cash along with two mobile phoones from them, they said, adding that later they escaped in a white Toyota Corolla car.
