QUETTA: The Balochistan caretaker cabinet on Monday approved powers of magistrate for the provincial environment department to ensure improved environment conditions in the province.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the cabinet, presided over by caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki here on Monday.

The powers have been given to the environment department under Section 1 of Sub-section 32 of the Balochistan Environmental Protection Act, 2012.

Briefing media about decisions taken by the cabinet at a press conference, Provincial Minister for Information Jan Achakzai said the cabinet has approved the release of funds for Paediatric Oncology Unit of Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Quetta.

Mr Achakzai said the cabinet has also decided to form a committee for preparing the first cloud policy for Balochistan in 2023.

The policy, he said, would be prepared on the recommendations of the Department of Science and Information Technology, adding that the committee would submit the policy in the next cabinet meeting.

The meeting approved recruitment of manpower from the private sector.

It was also agreed that merit and expertise would be preferred for appointing project directors.
