PESHAWAR: The police have arrested a four-member gang of women involved in stealing mobile phones, cash and other valuables from women passengers travelling in BRT buses.
The police said two of the gang members belonged to Rawalpindi, while the other two were residents of Imamia Colony, Gulbahar, Peshawar.
They said that a woman complainant had filed a report of mobile phone theft in BRT to the Town police station. Following the complaint, the police started an investigation and traced the gang by obtaining the recording of CCTV cameras installed on different routes of BRT.
A team, also including policemen, arrested the four women. They included the wife and daughter of Sherdil, a resident of Rawalpindi, and the wife and daughter of Baraan, a resident of Imamia Colony, Gulbahar.
The police recovered eight mobile phones and cash worth thousands of rupees from the gang, and registered a case against them.
Meanwhile, the University Town police have arrested a thief involved in stealing mobile phones and valuables from patients and their attendants inside the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH).
The thief was arrested after a complainant, Rafiq Gul registered a report with the police about the theft of his phone inside the KTH.
