QUETTA: The law-enforcement agencies on Wednesday foiled an attempt to carry out a car-bomb attack in the city and seized an explosives-laden car from a parking lot near a police station in the Eastern Bypass area.

According to police, law-enforcement agencies had received information about the presence of a suspected car in the parking lot close to a police station in the Eastern Bypass area. Members of law-enforcement immediately acted on the information and seized the explosives-laden car.

Officials of the bomb disposal squad called by police informed them after checking the car that huge explosives were planted in the car.

“Over 35 kilograms of high explosives were placed in the car for carrying out car suicide bombing in the provincial capital,” a senior police official said, adding that after defusing the explosives, the car was seized.

Meanwhile, police also recovered arms and ammunition from a car which was found parked in the parking plaza in Circular Road area. “AK-47 rifles and hundreds of rounds were recovered from the car,” police said, adding that four suspects had been taken into custody for interrogation.
